Camp Fuller Graces

“Tireless Guardian of our way….”

A grace is often defined as a short prayer or thankful phrase said before or after eating a meal.

A meal at Camp Fuller would not seem right without first taking a few minutes to recite a four-line blessing before sitting down in the Dining Hall for some delicious camp food.  Little is actually known about the origins of our three graces.  We do know that they are not unique to Fuller and are recited throughout the country at other summer camps and gatherings.  But that does not make them any less special or alter the significance of singing them before each meal.

Many of us have woven them into our personal lives and might even recite them before a meal at home or at a family holiday gathering.  Regardless of their origins, they have been sung with devotion and a heart-felt warmth for generations and have become an important part of life at Camp Fuller.

You will find the three Camp Fuller graces below along with an audio clip for each one.  Perhaps listening again will bring back some Dining Hall Memories.

BREAKFAST

Gracious Giver of All Good

Thee We Thank for Rest and Food

Grant that all we do or say

In thy service be this day

-Amen

Father for this Noonday meal

We would speak the praise we feel

Health and Strength we have from thee

Help us Lord to faithful be.

- Amen

DINNER

Tireless Guardian of our way

Thou has kept us well this day

While we thank thee we request

Care, continued pardon rest

-Amen

“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘Thank You’, that would suffice.” - Meister Eckhart
